An associate recently recommended Vicky at Black Norman Solicitors to help us with the acquisition of a grade 2 listed mix-use property. Due to the complex nature of the proposed sale, we were concerned about a number of implications on the Grade 2 listed building. However, Vicky's comprehensive knowledge and support have so far been second to none. Her willingness to bend over backward to ensure we get the assurance we need to progress the purchase has been amazing. This is what you call five-star, customer service. We look forward to doing much more work with Vicky and the Black Norman team.

Truly an awful experience.
I started the conveyancing process early to try and get my sale progressing and sadly the buyer pulled out. All I had done was fill out some extensive questionnaires, which took at least an hour of my time and then this information was sent as a 'pack' to the buyers solicitor. The bill for this work was nearly £1000. When I queried what cost so much in 2 emails, I received no response except about a month later they sent their bank details.
The communication is terrible, especially when problems arise, as they always do in property sales. Save yourself the headache and some change, and find another solicitor. The sad thing was, this was a recommendation from a work colleague, which prevented me from reading reviews online, if I had read these reviews I would never have instructed this firm.

Ask this company to litigate a case for me, at first the solicitor was very good but then she left. I heard nothing for 6 weeks despite repeated contact. I raised a complaint and it was dealt with. 4 weeks into the new solicitor starting, she left, again no contact still waiting for them to response to my request to what happens. I think two solicitors leaving says it all.
They are very quick to chase you up for money, but that’s about it

Brilliant 5 very difficult houses all sold no fuss no hassle. Deserves 10/10 stars 5 is not enough
Howard sorted out 5 extremely complicated house sales all at the same time, simple and fast. I cant tell you how much Howard made me feel they were in control of the situation at all times. Even dealing with the bank who were being very evasive and not helpful at all. If you need help then you are dealing with the right solicitors.
They went beyond my expectations. I was surprised when I received my bill it was not as much as I thought it was going to be
Howard thank you so much there are no words that can express what a brilliant job you and your team DID.
I recomend 10000% and if I ever need help I know were I am going for sure.

Unfortunately I can’t give no stars . If you are looking to purchase a property which doesn’t involve any actual work other than touching paper then these are your guys . However if there any issues , charges or restrictions you will need to research this yourself. As they get ‘overlooked’ was the excuse by Mr Mark Gilbertson.
Please bear in mind that this house was about to complete and had the purchase gone ahead. I would of lost my deposit and had a mortgage on a house I couldn’t live in .
So maybe one might deem it understandable to be a little if not a lot upset .
So I complained to Mr Jonathan Beck which was a absolute joke . He tried firstly to ignore me then blame the pandemic and lockdown for missing my email. (Correct me but this guy is not medical but probably just sitting at home on his computer?!). When he did respond he completely detracted and dismissed my actual complaint . He then just goes to say they acted correctly and that’s it . Obviously I don’t agree so I send another email and again no acknowledgment. So after a week or so, I’m getting frustrated so I send another email . He then replies immediately to tell me he doesn’t appreciate my ‘tones’ and says my email is ‘facetious ‘ . I reply and this time Jonathan can’t bear it ,he says case closed and tells me to go to the Ombudsman and still not addressing the original complaint . All I wanted was an apology from the company and a refund of my search fee (as a good will gesture) which I thought was pretty reasonable, considering all my other costs incurred post communication with Black Norman.
So now they get another bad review

I had a buyer who unfortunately pulled out of the sale of my house prematurely, within 5 days a new buyer at asking price was found. After asking Black Norman to put the file on hold they send me an invoice for £750 as an abortion fee to change the name of the buyer on the contracts and “start from scratch”. No enquiries were answered previously, minimal conveyancing was done.

Bad example of solicitor using their knowledge of the law to chase an unhappy customer for £200.
I appointed Black norman to convey on a property i bought post auction which had special condition, when they cleary don't understand the issue i asked them to send the contract to a different solicitor. They agreed and then suprise suprise im asked to pay £200. Both parties are wasting their time and the courts time for £200. and they now have the honor of bad review.
lesson how NOT to do business.
I recommend to STAY AWAY from this firm.

Was recommended by a friend to use these guys over a commercial debt. Had them write a letter, but had to chase to see if this had been sent. Not interested and finally received the copy of the letter after numerous requests. Not one apology about the service yet still wanting to get paid. Customer skills lacking despite their claim on their website. Still unhappy with their response.

Mr David Markham is not a client of ours. We are acting for a connected party and he was requested to come in with ID and bring in proof of his Bank Account details. He came with the details written on a scrap of paper. Whilst we copied these, it was deemed insufficient and he was asked to come back with a Bank Statement confirming his Bank Details.

Tried not get help from this solicitor, got a quote through that was suggesting several unnecessary things they would do to help with ridiculous costs attached. Was advised they were trying to confuse me to either make more money or they didn’t want my business so sent it to deter me from using them. As I never had a follow up from that email I assume the latter. Glad I went somewhere else.

I wanted to express my gratitude for your efforts and dedication for my claim.It was quite a long and upsetting process and I could never thought anyone would stay by my side for this long but you were very generous regarding it. It is really hard to make someone who doesn’t know you believe that you are innocent but you still put all your efforts in clearing my name.

Used peter skinner of this firm for a small claims issue. There are not enough characters to describe how bad of a solicitor and person he is. First off he messed our defense / counterclaim up 1 working day before it should have been filed we tried to get the documents back and he refused to give us them as we did not pay a £250 fee for documents which were wrongly done and copy and pasted information what i had given him, he advised he was not at the building so i could not collect the documents however when i unexpectedly turned up at black norman he was present. Then he missed numerous filings regarding questionnaire and mediation appointment and ignored the courts resulting in us representing ourselves - we missed our mediation appointment because of this. He is arrogant, defensive, a liar and a down right embarrassment to his 'profession', this seems to be the case with his colleagues also at black norman in Jonathan beck the practice manager who was equally defensive and did not reply to our complaint. I honestly wish i had never met these people, i would not recommend these for anything and this has now been forwarded to the ombudsman as they (very unsurprisingly neglected to respond to my complaint within 8 weeks)

Going to start replying to people's attention-seeking on social media with this comment. Congratulations to the internet for all of these wonderful #Rants. I appreciate each and every one of you. However, if you believe you're 'rights' have been violated why NOT sue this solicitor as an ombudsman normally doesn't work for the benefit of victims like you! However it does work for "firms and solicitors '' to better their standards! I would recommend suing instead of rants and an ombudsman route!
