Used for conveyancing. Based on my personal experience and in comparison to my previous conveyancing experiences elsewhere, its my view that...
Good: The price was fair and Sarah friendly
Bad: Poor communication, Colleague abrupt and defensive on the phone, Service was very slow, Estate agent informed me that she and the 'other' solicitor both had to repeatedly chase her. Kept in the dark - no idea what was happening (or IF anything was happening), Got the impression she may either have been inexperienced and/or carrying a massive caseload that could/would explain the above.
Sadly I would not recommend Blacks

Lack morals and Integrity. There was a misunderstanding on whether their work was required and a payment of £480 paid. They only sent a couple of emails, lied they did substantial work and would not agree to forfeit the money. I bet £480 is worth more than the company's standards and reputation. Not sure why precise mortgage would have this firm as part of their legal representation as they are unhelpful, with no morals and integrity.

Lie lie lie, to cover the fact they appear to be completely bone idle.
Sat on enquiries for a whole 3 weeks from our solicitor while continuing to tell their client that it was with our solicitors when it so obviously wasn’t. If it wasn’t for having communication directly with our sellers Blacks would have dragged the purchase out for months.
Not sure what people pay for when it ends up being the clients that kick their backside into gear. It was only when the sellers hit the roof that they actually did something about it.
Then when completion day finally comes, they even need pushing to do something as simple as a confirmation email to confirm the funds have been received. There seems to have been a distinct, can’t be bothered attitude throughout the whole process.
I’m sure the excuse will be Covid, we’re really busy blah blah blah, but 3 weeks to even acknowledge there are enquiries outstanding whilst telling their client that the ball is in the other court, dont think so. What is it, busy? Or just incompetence.
Utterly appalling service.

AVOID. Poor knowledge, unprofessional, zero communication. They had to be chased on a daily basis to do the job they got paid for. Could have lost our first home.

Starting from a point of ignorance, a detailed analysis of firms undertaking private property disputes, Blacks were first longlisted to one of six and then shortlisted to one of three.
James Teague, Head of Property Dispute was efficient, matter of fact, pleasant and knowledgeable and gave me just over an hour o n the phone going advising me on initial steps, likely costs which was much appreciated. Case is only just commencing.

Fantastic Service I am an 81 year old widow hard of hearing with mobility problems Blacks Direct in conjunction with Age Partneship
Obtained Equity Release in my property in six weeks They were so so helpful making sure I understood all the legal questions they did an lengthy interview over the phone and sent a solicitor to my home for final sighting. Thank you

I am having a remortgage dealt with by blacks, the service is absolutely appalling, do not answer phone, do not reply to emails do not call back, are not upto date with the case, I could go on.
For your own sanity, do not use. (You have been warned)

Absolutely dreadful. Don’t go anywhere near this firm. Easy house transaction, elderly grandma to a new flat, grandson buys the house with mortgage in place. What can possibly go wrong? Answer, everything. Stalling, abysmal communication. Lying about the process. Last minute things happening out of the blue. 4 differ3nt dates to complete so far and we are not there yet. One star is one too many

Blacks is the worst firm of solicitors I have ever dealt with. They are unprofessional, inefficient and incompetent. I would never use them again or recommend them to anyone. If recommended by Purple bricks - say no thank you.

Dealt with blacks as part of the package with purple bricks. Had an on going sale with them for 6 months.
Had an absolute dreadful experience. No calls back or emails , being passed around the company to different solicitors. Waiting for weeks for responses.
Rang purple bricks who said they had spoke to them bit still nothing happens. Would never have these again worse expeience of my life. After months of ringing round and chasing after a date still no response. Thos has causes me so much anxiety and stress its affected my work and my home life. We are litteraly living out of boxes and have no furniture after giving these away to make room in the new house we was promised we would be in a month ago. DO NOT USE EITHER

Pretty much the same as the other reviews avoid like the plague I am still tied in with them through Purple Bricks I would never use them again, even their staff just up and walk out (2 of my case handlers there one day gone the next!)

Absolutely dreadful!!!! Unfortunately, if you go with the Purplebricks recommendation, you don't know upfront who the conveyancer will be - probably so you can't read the reviews. No return emails, no call backs, phone gets put down if you call in. Unresponsive to buyer solicitor enquiries, incomplete paperwork was submitted and literally no advice provided. I did reach out to the managing partner via LinkedIn and then finally received a response once. Escalation path provided went nowhere, too. Do not use if you have a choice, it'll cause you delays and a lot of stress and headaches! Would give negative stars if possible.

Advised by purple bricks to use Blacks solicitors. They deny receiving document 3 weeks after they have been sent but when you give them evidence ie recorded delivery receipt they miraculously tell you it has just been given to them!!! They use para legals who are incompetent and who deny receiving documents. If using purple bricks, avoid Blacks (who they recommend) at all costs.
