A very nice lady but too nice to deal with aggressive solicitors on the other side. I spent over £7000 when I realised that I was no further forward. I lost confidence and switched solicitor. I have since spoken to others who had the same experience, one of whom also switched. There was also no clear billing policy. You have to request and itemised bill so I had no idea what I was spending all this money on.

Thank you for your comment. We take all feed back seriously. All the family solicitors at Copleys have over 25 years experience. They are members of Resolution, and follow the code of practice to reduce conflict and confrontation. To respond aggressively to aggressive correspondence is contrary to the said code, and often generates unnecessary costs. To progress the case, where necessary, clients are advised to apply to the court to timetable matters.. We are unclear as to why you have referred to the billing policy, for this would have been sent to you in your initial letter, with a costs estimate.

There are other ways of dealing with aggressive solicitors than being aggressive back as my new solicitor proved.

They've lost most of their good staff over the past few years. There's just a rump left of their worst and/or least experienced people .

It is true that older members of staff have retired from the firm, and that we have recruited new and younger members of staff. However, we would dispute that they or those solicitors who have been with the firm for some time are what is pejoratively referred to as the 'rump' in the review. They are hard working, enthusiastic and up-to-date with changes in the law that occur together with the enormous changes imposed on solicitors by the government. Should any of our clients have complaints about our service, they need only invoke our complaints procedure, which is a regulatory requirement.

I do not often leave reviews but on this occasion I would like to thank the St Ives branch for being so good, understanding and highly professional throughout.
In particular, I would like to express my utmost gratitude to Paula Hamilton who provided me with her expert service of exceptionally high value. The consultation was worth every penny. The hour that I spent was packed with valuable information.
I thoroughly recommend this company to anyone who wants a personal and caring approach and professionalism in dealing with their case!

In your review you state that Copleys is 'very slow'. Where a client is of the view that matters are not progressing as quickly as they would like, it is always possible to bring this to the attention of the partners and/or the Practice Manager, details of which can be found on our website. I was weary of this firm from the reviews on here, but note that the 3 bad reviews are all left by parties who did not use this firm but another firm and thus their opinion is likely based on what their own solicitor has told them. It is easy to blame others. Personally after following the recommendation of my estate agent I appointed copleys on my sale and purchase, and am so glad I did. They were really helpful, professional and consistent with the information they provided throughout the transaction. I would use them again without a doubt.

We wanted to use a local, long standing solicitor for our conveyancing and Nikki Ashworth at Copleys St Ives was the right lady for the job. We found the process of purchasing our first time home a bit daunting at first, however our experience to exchange overall was seamless. Nikki was amazing at keeping us involved and up to date with information, legal issues and the process of buying a home. Apart from the hiccup with Barclays bank and a delay in completion, Nikki pulled out all the stops and got us moved. We would not hesitate to recommend Nikki, she is a credit to the company. Copleys are acting for my buyer and have been nothing but slow! They go over the same old ground time and time again and request things at the last minute. Avoid them if you can, we sadly are victim to their incompetence and its causing us so much stress!

In response, we have a professional duty to our clients who are purchasing your property. It is always easy to blame the solicitors on the other side for not acting quickly enough but on the basis that purchasing a property is one of the largest investments most people make during their lifetime, it is better to take time get it right. If we are going over the same old ground, it may be that your own solicitor/conveyance has been slow in providing the information required.

After experiencing really bad issues with several local bulk conveyancing firms who's quotes appear cheaper on first glance, but actually work out double those of a high street solicitor with all the hidden charges, we decided to use Copleys a high street firm. Not only did they end up cheaper, the advice was second to none and taught us that when using conveyancing firms you really don't get half the information you should. Copleys were very clear, informative and helpful thought the speedy transaction. Wouldn't hesitate to use their st Ives office again.

Copleys are representing the seller not me directly but their communication with our solicitor is awful, they're slow at requesting any information and on 4 occasions we've had to go via the estate agent and the seller herself to get the information required to progress the process. Always really evasive with their communications when they finally do respond and have caused us on multiple occasions to threaten to pull out of the purchase just to get a response. Could make the whole process smoother with basic communication skills or informing our solicitor of the situation rather than ignoring emails and phone calls.

Fantastic service and value for money. Obtained various quotes from other solicitors and copleys by far the most reasonable. Really guided me through the process, returning all calls and emails the same day. Very polite and helpful all the way through. Would highly recommend.

I would not recommend these solicitors, very slow process they don't answer emails or return phone calls. Expensive and not worth my hard earned money my house sale took over 5 months!!! Terrible service

It is always disappointing to read on an online review that a client has been dissatisfied by the service provided by the firm. However, at the conclusion of each matter, clients are sent a feedback questionnaire in which they can raise issues. Any issues raised are acted upon and the client notified. Unfortunately, not all property purchases are straightforward, and delays can occur. Any dissatisfaction is acted upon if the firm is notified of it.
