This week I successfully sued Tom Hays for professional negligence and loss of opportunity, putting an end to a very frustrating 2.5 years. Tom Hays promised the world when I went to him to start a defamation case against a tabloid newspaper but he then missed the limitation deadline for it, then tried to hide that fact, then ignored me for months, and then told more lies, including a false accusation (how ironic, coming from a defamation lawyer). I found a solicitor to sue for negligence, and finally a settlement was agreed between Tom Hays' indemnity insurance company and my solicitor. If he has done something similar to you, you could do the same. I hear he's left the country but you still have 6 years to make a complaint (from the date of the event) and his insurance company is still liable for this. It appears he has treated more than a few people badly and they need compensating.

I too was taken for a ride by Dr Hays. I was the Chairman of an Association representing unpaid contractors in a wrongful trading suit. He also stonewalled us after a year and let our High Court action lapse. Please could you let me know the contact details of the solicitor you used to claim against his insurance. pauldmaher@aol.com

I have only just read this and had similar issues with this man in 2011, I wish I could get in touch with you. The man was a complete charlatan.

A reasonable charge but absolutely shocking service. I have just received notice that Dr Thomas Hays is leaving the country and had my file returned. In it was an important document that needed completion within two months of receipt. They had done nothing in those two months and therefore my application and funds which I had paid on top of the solicitors have been wasted.

I too have been burned by this so called 'Dr' Hays. I spoke with him in March 2011 about a defamamtion case and he informed me that I had a compelling case. I completed all necessary paper work and submitted back to them in June 2011. In september after receiving no further word from 'Dr' Hays I phoned and emailed and I have phoned every single week up to december 2011 with Thomas Hays simply ignoring me. I did get to speak with a receptionist named Germaine who told me that I had to complete the documentation again as they were now six months outdated. This I did again and sent to them in December 2011 and again I have been ringing 'Dr' Hays every week sometimes three and four times per day but although numerous messages have been left he just simply ignores me. Quite unprofessional if you ask me....Best to AVOID THIS SOLICITOR IF YOU WANT YOUR CASES DEALT WITH PROPERLY

I dealt with Tom Hays, the principal of the company as asked to act on behalf for my false attribution case. I paid a substantial amount of money to start the case and a year later I am no further with my case. Tom Hays didn't fully register my case with the county court, and did not get so far as an initial response from the defendant - which is 9 months overdue now. The service was appalling - Tom Hays ignored all my emails and phonecalls for 5 months. Only after a started a formal complaint did he respond with a complete fallacy about withdrawing my case 5 months ago - and claimed to have let me know this repeatedly (he has done no such thing). I have reported him to the Legal Ombudsman and have had to seek advice from another solicitor about what to do next.
