We have had an ongoing situation with Hegarty for 2 years now with regards to the 'Freehold' of our property. Hegarty's have been excruciatingly slow to respond and to fix this mistake that their team made by not checking fully before sending out the deeds. The last update they helpfully told me 'it is quite expensive so we are going to contact the original seller solicitors to get some of the money back' it has nothing to do with them, so this is a wasted exercise. To be honest I just want this all sorted and I am passed the point of caring about how much money they claw back for their error. In my last email I made it clear that I had had enough and that I would like more communication and was willing to be a bit more pro-active in getting answers.

To top it all I called for an update this morning to find they have appeared to block my mobile number (I didn't even call them that much). I tried calling them from my mobile and it didn't go through, just said call failed, I then used 141 from my mobile and it rang, just as a tester I then tried again to call from my mobile without 141 and it didn't go through, called failed again. I wish we had not gone with Hegarty's as they were recommended by the Estate Agents who don't use them anymore.

There was no phone call despite the assurance of the response from the marketing manager today answering the Google Review I left, not that I was expecting a call at all, but thought it was worth mentioning the lip service did not come through. I will be making sure I post on as many platforms as I can so that people are fully informed of how badly mismanaged this has been.

This firm is a total disgrace. I am currently buying a property and Hegartys are the sellers solicitors. There is no chain AT ALL involved in this sale - we are SIX MONTHS down the line and still have not reached exchange. This is due to Hegartys lack of communication and knowledge. They have denied my solicitor access to documents and information which has stopped us from reaching exchange. They have not replied to emails from the 5 SEPTEMBER (it is now the 9th Jan). My solicitor, who is fantastic, Sheila Gaspar @ Austin Edwards, has said she has NEVER dealt with another solicitors so incompetent of their job in her entire career. It is unfortunate that I cannot report them to the Obudsman as I am not their client, but if I could I would.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

TERRIBLE. Hegarty worked with Connells estate agent for conveyancing service and I took on the recommendation thinking the process will be easier and all documentation will be a one stop shop.
HUGE MISTAKE. Turned out both Connells and Hegarty are both radio silence when comes to answering client's questions for weeks! I am left in limbo on how to proceed on for the sale of my property. I also realised the hard way that Hegarty is charging on average £300 more compared to other conveyancing service providers i researched online after I signed the contract with them. Did Connells take a huge cut as commission for referral?
Despite the negative experience, the only positive thing I can say is they have a good online portal to upload the documents which comes in handy if you do not have a fax machine at home. This is where the 1 star is awarded.

AVOID THEM .Using them for conveyancing. I thought previous solicitors I used were bad but these people are worst. Non responsive, Impossible to contact even after 6 or 7 calls a day and leaving multiple voice messages. Doesn't answer any queries until you chase them up multiple times. delayed everything for no reason. Did not apply to the lender even after receiving all the contracts. Asked for more documents at the 12th hour when they had 4 weeks to request them prior to deadline. Cant comment of any other services they provide but for conveyancing AVOID THEM at all cost.

Terrible solicitors, dishonest, and are an embarrassment to the legal profession. A long standing Peterborough and Stamford business they're clearly surviving on past brand reputation because the personnel I encountered (Matthew Sidebottom, Joy Plummer) are diabolical. They dragged out a dispute for 2 years, racking up costs and not revealing to the client offers that were made to settle. They reel you in, and drag things out, to make maximum money out of you. Attitude of their solicitors stinks and some of their conduct is verging on criminal, and definitely contrary to SRA rules.


All-in-all avoid Hegarty's if you need legal services in the Peterborough area, I'm sure every other firm would be a better choice.
