This company agreed to work to 4-6 weeks for exchange on the purchase of our property. 19 weeks later, after 5 different solicitors were involved, they finally communicated with their client. We have no comeback whatsoever, regulators not interested. Avoid

We needed a notary and were put in touch with Martin Jinks .
Martin was extremely efficient and guided us through the whole process especially considering the current problems on the coronavirus pandemic. Within a matter of days
the forms were completed and we were completely satisfied .

We used this firm a couple of years ago to finalize an estate matter for us. We were the beneficiaries and Executrix. We found this firm absolutely horrendous to deal with. We used Natasha. The file was sent to Nelsons from the Public Trustee so we continued on using them. Biggest mistake we could have made. Getting information was like herding kittens. It was a very straight forward estate as estates go. It took Natasha quite a while to take certain steps. When I would send an email on behalf of the beneficiaries and the Executrix asking what was happening with very little information forthcoming and eventually having to get quite snarky with her we would be billed for it. We literally had so little feedback and paperwork, then we would question why and would be billed for asking why the delays and what is happening. Initially one of the beneficiaries was left off the list. We brought this to her attention and it was resolved. Eventually the file was settled but the statement of account we received for the very poor work we felt we received contained little information. She seemed to have an issue keeping anyone informed even when we asked and asked and asked and asked (and getting billed for asking). The account gave few details. I am a paralegal and have 34 years of legal service so I knew what to expect and what would be appropriate. We never really did get a full accounting but eventually we involved the managing partner and did receive a reduction in the account which we felt was most certainly over-billed and a better explanation rather than the standard 'for legal services rendered'. It was disgusting. We just recently learned almost 2 years later that there was a further payment due to us all as interest from monies held in trust with another bank and law firm. We have asked repeatedly how long this law firm held on to this money for and have yet to receive a response. 22 months have actually passed since we thought this file was closed. Suddenly we received a deposit into our bank accounts with absolutely no explanation whatsoever but this seems to be the way Nelsons work. Had one of the beneficiaries not noticed this small payment to us we could easily have known nothing about it as it got lost in the ins and outs of our bank accounts. Now wouldn't you think a letter would be sent to the Executrix of a phone call even, but nope! Nothing. No explanation at all other than it was interest from a former account but no explanation as to how long they sat on this for before they bothered to send these funds to us. I suspect they had this money for quite some time and found it upon the file coming up for closing. I don't know. That is just a guess on my part. So, bottom line, well we can only give you our experience but it was horrible dealing with this firm and every single one of us felt the same way. None of us would ever use this business again. They don't really even deserve one star but I shall be generous here and give them one if only because they are breathing. Use with caution.

I first came into contact with Nelsons in 2016 via recommendation from another practice.
At the time I was in a very bad place due to a very difficult time with my now ex wife - my situation was dire and instructing Nelsons only proved to make the situation even worse, orders that could have helped me were neglected and to be honest if you are male and find Shelley Scott handling your case unfortunately you’re in a very bad place.

The basics like answering the phone/returning messages just do not happen and statements are routinely late.
PLEASE THINK VERY CAREFULLY ABOUT INSTRUCTING THIS COMPANY

All of the reviews can’t be wrong regarding an apparent attitude problem this company appears to have - do yourself a huge favour and Google Smiths Partnership in Derby.

Overall a good service, communication could have been better but my house sale went through in four weeks and I got text message updates and emails from time to time. I'd recommend to friends and family.

Avoid at all costs. Phone calls very rarely returned. When you do get to speak to someone they give you an answer that suits them, then when you eventually speak to them again they denied what they had said in the first place. Then when you question it you get a 'so what' answer. If you tell them that you want to complain they get one of the partners to call you back about 30 minutes later to be told that they have looked through the file and they say there is nothing to complain about. Terrible customer care. Would not pay them in washers.
