Gaddafi Dead, U.S. Announces Withdrawal from Iraq

(Posted on 21/10/11)

The world became a much safer place this week as news broke around the world that Muammar Gaddafi had been killed. He was killed by rebels who’d been on the hunt for him for years. One of the ten fighters who found Gaddafi hiding in a drainage pipe said, "When we had him and we surrounded him, he was talking like an idiot. He asked the rebels - soon to be executioners - ‘What’s going on, what did I do?". Moments later, he was shot in the head and minutes after that, the video and still images began circulating across the world.
While many were celebrating the death of this brutal murderer and torturer, Foreign Secretary William Hague was quick to reiterate Britain in no way approves of extrajudicial killings. Still, there’s no denying the significance of this dictator’s passing.
The many victims who were killed because of his orders now have families with some degree of peace. The Lockerbie bombing, the mass murders in many countries and over the course of four decades have now been vindicated.
News broke on Friday that his final resting place will be kept secret and that his burial has also been delayed.
Now, it’s been suggested by Defence Secretary Philip Hammond that UK businesses should consider their opportunities in Libya, especially since Britain played a significant part in annihilating the Gaddafi brutality. This, of course, would offset some of the expenses that taxpayers have shelled out , which total around £300 million. The country will need to be rebuilt in total.
Less than 24 hours after news broke of Gaddafi’s death, President Barack Obama announced U.S. troops would be pulled out of Iraq by year’s end, marking an end to a 9 year war that began following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. While this is good news for American families, questions are being asked regarding an ulterior motive. The country will elect a new president or re-elect its current president in a year and the campaigning has already begun.
