The Historic Microsoft and Skype Merger

(Posted on 12/05/11)

Casey Cogut, a senior corporate partner with Simpson Thatcher & Bartlett, LLP and who specializes in mergers and acquisitions and private equity deals, is overseeing the historic Microsoft and Skype merger. Cogut, now based in the United States, he served as Senior Resident Partner at the firm's London location.  Handling private "complex multi-jurisdictional acquisitions", it was natural that he would step up to the plate.

With the firm since 1973, Cogut became partner in 1980. Named one of the ten "Most Highly Regarded Individuals" in 2010 by the International Who's Who of Corporate Governance Lawyers, Cogut is looking forward to this "international challenge". He was also named Senior Statesman in the Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity in Chambers' 2011 "Guide to the World's Leading Lawyers for Business". He was also named one of the "Best of the Best" M&A lawyers in Euromoney's 2011 Expert Guides as well as Deal Maker of the Year by "American Lawyer" for two years.

The deal is still working its way through various legal channels and must still must gain regulatory approvals, Cogut said he and his team are confident that the deal will sail through.

Simpson, Thatcher & Bartlett, LLP is home to more than 800 lawyers and has offices in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, Tokyo, London and Washington DC. Its home office is in New York City.
