Tragic Find in Case of Missing Sian O'Callaghan
(Posted on 25/03/11)
Police announced less than 24 hours ago that an arrest had been made in the case of missing Sian O'Callaghan. Now, police have just announced not only do they believe they have found her body, but a second body has been discovered as well. Forensic testing is currently underway and her family is simply devastated.
The tax driver who's now been charged with kidnapping and murder has also been named. Christopher Halliwell, who is 47, has gone from person to interest to likely the only suspect. Police say he led them to O'Callaghan's body on a road outside Wantage and close to Oxfordshire. The second body has yet to be located; however, police say they are certain of the area.
O'Callaghan's family thanked the public for its help in the search for who they refer to as "our beautiful daughter". The family asked for continued prayers as the days ahead are sure to be dark ones.
The public plea by police this morning resulted in fast action by the media and public. Within hours of releasing information on the vehicle they were looking for, it was reported it the green Toyota Avensis taxi had been pulled over and moments later, the driver was seen in handcuffs being led away by police.
Other search warrants are being carried out at this hour and there has been no word on who the second victim might be, other than the "certainty" of the existence of one. Further, there's been no formal word on whether Halliwell knew either victim, though police seem to believe O'Callaghan did not know him. There has also been no word on legal representation for Halliwell.
