Will Morgan Square Off Against Mills?

(Posted on 05/08/11)

Controversial Heather Mills has made allegations against former editor of a now-defunct newspaper that he gave the green light to a senior journalist to hack into her hone. That editor, Piers Morgan, has now been asked to leave his chair at CNN to answer those allegations.

Responding to calls from British lawmakers, Morgan is said to be considering returning to his homeland in an effort to clear his name. Morgan has insisted he not only did not give the orders, but that he did not know his journalists were involved with anything unethical or illegal.

Mills claims the journalist confronted her regarding a voice mail he was made privy to and that was left by her former husband, Paul McCartney. The voice mail is said to have been "heated" and occurred during the couple's tumultuous split. In an interview with the Daily Mail in 1996, Morgan admitted to having listened to various phone messages that were a result of access to Mills' voice mail. He's since released a presser that reads, in part, "Heather Mills has made unsubstantiated claims about a conversation she may or may not have had with a senior executive..in 2001. To reiterate, I have never hacked a phone, told anyone to hack a phone nor...published any story obtained from the hacking of a phone".

Earlier this week, it was learned that one of the victims whose voice mails were intercepted was later found murdered. The school girl is just one of the "several" victims of crime. Earlier, allegations were made that the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack also had their voice mail hacked into. U.S. officials, including the FBI, is considering what charges, if any, it can file against the crumbling Rupert Murdoch News Corp empire.

The arrests are now up to eleven. It's not believed Morgan is in danger of facing any kind of criminal charges. He was editor at News of the World for one year in the mid-1990s and then served as the editor of the Mirror from 1995 through 2004. He then relocated the United States where he now hosts a talk show on Cable News Network.
