Absolute incompetent conveyancing solicitors!! Especially Rehana. Very unprofessional, poor gammer and spelling! How did this person qualify for a conveyancing solicitor??? Nightmare experience! I received email from my sellers solicitor Rehana confirming keys are released and ready at 2.30pm. But I had to wait 3 hours until after 5pm for the keys!! What a joke!! Zero communications between the solicitor and the vendor......cost me unnecessary fees as my removals company had to wait on arrival until vendor passed keys after 5pm. Cowboy solicitors!!!

This firm have not responded to our calls, emails and formal complaints for 2 years in relation to probate for our late mothers property- they currently hold a large amount of money from my late mother in laws estate and wont respond to return the money, wont respond to calls or emails and wont return any documentation so we can pass our case to another firm.
We have escalated to a formal complaint with the legal ombudsman
We would not recommend this firm at all to anyone needing legal services.

Dis not inform us up front about charges, messed up initial probate, first attempt at house sale was not possible as probate not issued, sale fell through still charged us. Overcharged us a ridiculous amount, is not answering calls and emails to discuss the costs. Never, ever use this solicitor. If I could give no stars I would.

If I would give this firm zero starts if I could. I would actively ask everyone to avoid this firm.
I purchased a property and the partner (Mr Devile) was dealing with the legal formalities but he took so long to respond to the other party, the mortgage provider and me that in the end the valuation expired and I had to pay for a new one. Then he failed to finalise the legal formalities (didn't pay the stamp duty, didn't register the title). I ended up with a £2,000 fine from HMRC for late payment of stamp duty. Carter Devile also failed to respond to a formal complaint I raised. It took two years and a complaint to the legal ombudsman to get matters finalised. The legal ombudsman upheld my complaint due to the sheer amount of errors and the complete lack of communication. This firm also overcharged me significantly for the work undertaken.

I found this solicitor to be intentionally slow in handling my case so that my fees were way more than I expected and what is typical for a case of this kind. They 'sat' on paperwork for months and charged exorbitant fees for making no progress. I did not believe the reasons they have given for the delays and so I have shown them to a solicitor friend and who tells me that the reasons are baseless. I DO NOT RECOMMEND

By far the worst experience I’ve had with any company. Have taken years (literally) to do anything and now will not respond to us or our new solicitors. Commercial property sale in limbo because of no response for months. DO NOT USEP

The service that I received from this firm was diabolical. For example I rang to speak to Mr Devile, he was not available, I left a message. I rang again because he did not return my call only to be told to leave my contact details again, even though the receptionist acknowledged that she has spoken to me earlier in the day - what did they do? Throw my contact details in the bin? This scenario occured on a number of occasions.
The service was slow (non existent), even to the point where the other parties solicitor was complaining,
They do not respond to phone calls, email, or to letters.
They have not not removed a charge that was against the property that acted for me on, even though I have chased them several times (with no response on each occasion).
Basically, this firm was (and still is) the cause of my stress and I paid them for that pleasure!
They still (after 5 months and several chasers) have not provided the removed the charge that I paid them to remove and did not have the courtesy to acknowledge or respond to a formal complaint letter.

The service provided by the solicitor was excellent. He was very efficient, courteous and at a very distressing time, was very kind and understanding. I am not going to comment on charges. I have nothing but praise for our solicitor and if all the solicitors at this practice work to the same high standard then I would totally recommend Carter Devile to anyone.
