In my own opinion, my experience was that they seem to have no interest in mediation or reconciliation, but instead appeared to advocate a very aggressive approach to family law practice which may satisfy their clients basic emotional urges in the heat of the moment - but ultimately stands to destroy channels of communication forever. I have sought advice elsewhere which was more pragmatic. In my own view, they are motivated by making money first and foremost.

Ginn and Co are executors of my late father's estate. They deal the with probate matters which are fairly straight forward. My expectations are fairly modest - I want clear accurate information provided in a timely manner. Instead what I get is the exact opposite. Muddled and confused sums it up.
My advice is stay clear, but if you do use them try and agree from the start timetabling, costs, level of feedback - because if your not bothered they certainly won't be.

Mr Middleton is responsible for probate and has been doing the job at Ginn & Co for over 40 years. He has an excellent reputation within the city and is respected by fellow practitioners. I suspect that this review has been written by a disgruntled client who is well known to the firm and the Legal Ombudsman.

My review provides an honest account of my experience with Ginn and Co.
As you have, correctly, named the solicitor and seem to know his experience and reputation I am assuming you are writing from the firm.
In reply, indeed I am disgruntled with the service. Although, to date I have made no formal complaint so it's a little strong to say I am well known to the firm and the ombudsman. Rather than be dismissive of criticism perhaps you could simply work to improve the service?

No not from the firm but have known Mr Middleton for many years and his reputation is solid in Cambridge. You say you are 'a little disgruntled' but you rush to put your criticism on line. Earlier you state that The advice given was muddled and confused did you raise a complaint with the firm first? As for fees I presume you received a letter which you would have been asked to sign confirming these?

So he's your mate. Understandable you want to defend him, for all I know down the pub he might be a diamond geezer. But the experience I have had has indeed been negative. As well muddled I'd add slow and not particularly well informed. This is a review site, am sure his 'solid reputation' can take some frank comments.

My husband had recently been diagnosed with vascular dementia and fortunately we both took out powers of attorney in 2008 with Ginn and Co. I needed to register it and was given an appointment the next day. My solicitor remembered me from when we last saw him five year ago and was most helpful in explaining the registration process for me so that the power of attorney could be used. the documents were ready for me to sign by the end of the week. Having the power of attorney has made a difficult time less traumatic. It's nice to have solicitors that care - I know their historic offices in the city centre are a touch old fashioned but that is outweighed by their real care for my family shown over the years.

I would recommend these Solicitors. I had legal aid, but they still did a very good job.

I was recommended Ginn & Co solicitors by the estate agent covering our purchase, and was delighted with the service provided by Gary Mader. Everything was done very promptly and efficiently, especially given our desire for a swift exchange. We also received very thorough documentation about the house we were purchasing, including its history and the conservation area in which it is located. I would highly recommend Ginn & Co to other purchasers.

Mr Peter Middleton dealt with my late mother's estate in an exemplary way, was corteous, efficient and kept me informed throughout the process. My mother certainly made a good choice of solicitors.

No idea as to the professionalism of these Solicitors as a whole but I concur with the reviewer who stated that Chris Walke was found to be , basically, incompetent and disorganised. My personal experience of his work elsewhere is that of an individual incapable of completing even the most basic tasks in a reasonable time. Use his services at your own risk!

I highly recommend this firm.
In my experience they understand the subtle nuances of family law very well, they work hard to protect the interests of their clients, and they always act with integrity.
Amongst the staff, Chris Walke is worthy of particular mention.

This is the same Chris Walks named and shamed on a national website, due to his incompetence and deciept, cost a Father access to his childten , what a wonderful person he is, I think not!

This is the second time I will have had to post a review of Ginn & Co here as they threatened to take legal action against this site which in essence, is only airing peoples right to freedom of speech. Human rights act 1998 Article 10 Freedom of expression: 1; Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers.
My previous review was factual and met with the rules of this site.
Ginn & Co should take constructive critism (even if it is negative) on the chin, as any so called professional services should and use it to improve.
Peoples views may differ and it is only fair that a balanced unbiased view is seen, my oppinion of Ginn & Co differs from the other peoples reviews but is in no way, a less valid review just because it shows them in a negative light. It is my oppinion, in my dealings with them, they seemed to provide appalling service and between lets just say JC and CW apear to have little or no people skills. In the 7 month period I had dealings with them, I found them in my eyes to be discourtious, disorganised, dishonest and generally lacking in respect. Had they of listened and dealt with complaints as they came up and not buried their heads in the sand I would not feel it necessary to review them at all, There is a still many public funded family law solicitors in cambridge if I were you I would check them out, before looking at this lot.

I have been associated with Ginn and Co (in particular Jonathan Copper) for about 3 years. I can highly recommend them as a very caring organisation for family matters, wills and legal matters associated with house purchase.

I enjoyed the services of Mr. Lane of Ginn and Co during my divorce on 1996. My divorce was a complicated one as it involved two parties from different countries, hence, extensive knowledge of international law was needed. I was grateful to the whole staff of the firm then for being so supportive and efficient. Today I have the opportunity to express my gratitude to Ginn and Co again. Even though my case was closed long ago and I moved to America, they were able to assist me again with documents kept in my file. They even remember me! It's was a personal touch that I can't say I experience with other firms.
