My journey with James E Barnes Solicitors began in 2010 when my cousin recommended them for the purchase of my shared ownership flat. From the outset, Jim was exceptional—taking the time to thoroughly explain the lease, my liabilities, risks, and responsibilities. He provided invaluable hints and tips, making a complex process much more manageable and giving me real peace of mind.

Fast forward to my recent move, and I knew exactly who to turn to. This time, Emma was my solicitor, and she was absolutely brilliant. Despite her busy caseload, I always felt like I was her only client. She was consistently responsive, whether by email or phone, and her advice was always comprehensive. Her knowledge and expertise are truly outstanding.

Emma expertly handled three significant transactions for me: buying a new house, staircasing my shared ownership flat to 100%, and then selling it. Each transaction was executed flawlessly, with Emma’s professionalism and efficiency shining throughout. She has a remarkable ability to get things moving—especially when dealing with housing associations, managing agents, and other solicitors.

What I appreciate most about James E Barnes Solicitors is their commitment to transparency and client care. Their legal fees are always fixed, so there are no surprises. They consistently have my best interests at heart, and their expertise in conveyancing makes the entire process easy and effective.

The price was a fixed fee and very good value for the excellent service provided. We were provided with timely advice and were responded to promptly with any queries we had fully explained to us.

I’ve seen some negative reviews for this company and I feel like they must have been left either by competitors or for the wrong company as I have never experienced anything other than a completely positive service. I have used James E Barnes for three properties transactions now and I honestly couldn’t rate them highly enough. Jim has an incredible knowledge of Shared Ownership and some of the advice he gave me was invaluable. He is at the end of the telephone at any time and is happy to answer all questions, big or small. I must also say that Emma, who thankfully was assigned to my recent transactions, is an outstanding solicitor, extremely knowledgable, efficient and hard working, but more than that, she is kind, she kept me calm, took every call from me (sometimes several times a day!) and is an absolute asset to the firm!

This is the second time I have used this solicitor and, like before, I cannot recommend them highly enough. They have your interests at heart and keep you informed each step of the way. All staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing too much trouble. As a single mum it is important to feel secure and to have trust with all dealing with transactions of such significance, importance and involving large sums of money. I 100% had that with James E Barnes. Their fees are in line with others and I highly recommend them. If/when I move again, they will be my first port of call for sure.
