Will and probate

We are having a truly unsatisfactory service from Mawdsleys, over my mother's probate. She died well over two years ago and there is still £200,000 that has not been handed over to my sons who are the beneficiaries, and Anthony Burns has been totally uncommunicative, last email was Jan 2023, and has, twice in the last 18 months, condescended to come to the phone to fob me off personally, rather than have his awfully rude secretary do it for him. We have reported him to The Legal Ombudsman and the Solicitors Regulatory Authority, who have been in communication with us, and we now know that they have had dozens of complaints and have a forensic team in Mawdleys offices for the last few months and have uncovered many irregularities and will be sending me the forensic teams report in the coming week or so and letting me know the next stage, which is likely, at the very least, another fine for Anthony Burns, who they have fined for malpractice before, or, even striking him off. I could not recommend a firm less, and, according to a friend, even his own staff tell people that they know not to use the firm and go elsewhere - "Joyce recommended to use some else as Tony Burns was running it to the ground after his partner left. Mr Burns blamed him being ill during COVID for not being on top of things. Joyce was lovely though and completely held the place together." Sadly it seems Joyce passed away last year. I have found Anthony Burns to be totally uncommunicative, reticent, and his staff to be rude, and belligerent, or, in the case of one, clearly resigned to fielding complaints from clients all day. Without the SRA I dout my sons will ever see the remaining £200,000 due to them after the initial money from the house sale. I don't take this personally, a quick perusal of Google reviews and other online review platforms, most of the reviews are one star ones, detailing the same issues we have had, and some stating they have reported him. Avoid this firm!!

Today is 11th Jan 2021. Despite 6 emails and 2 phone calls ( messages left to call me ) since 4th July 2020, ( over 6 months ) I have had NO response from the 'service' Solicitor regarding the final conclusion / final payment of Estate monies ( 't's crossing and 'i's dotting ) of the Estate Administration in question. 3 years down the line since the death of my Aunt. Could definitely NOT recommend. Atrocious professional behaviour to ignore very polite communications requesting response, for so long.

Having exactly the same experience here, my mother dead for almost 2 years, and £200,000 in shares remain unsold and the money to given to my sons who are beneficiaries of it. No explanation, apology and no written communication for 14 months!! I have reported them to the SRA and Legal Ombudsman, after telling them if they did not communicate I would. Nothin back, so reported them, and called the office to let them know. The receptionist went "Ooooh, whatever, we are done here" and hung up. Disgusting behaviour. They should not be allowed to operate!! They are also breaking the law by having no information on how to complain, which should be on their site, but neither domain has a website attached.

Excellent knowledgeable and professional service in various aspects of law. Very reasonable fees. Have recommended them to a few people.

I find it hard to imagine how this firm could have been less helpful. Operating on an outdated and possibly slightly delusional business model, they are rude, condescending, slow and out of touch.
