Simply can’t emphasize the following enough.

Our purchasers had chosen Jane as their conveyancer and initially although off to a slow start everything ticked along as expected.

It was only in the final stages (c10 weeks in to the transaction) that issue’s / cracks started to appear.

Enquires where re-raised that had already been answered a few weeks previously, more alarming somewhere against the wrong address yet again (this had already been pointed out), unfortunately this only escalated and we ended up engaging with the purchaser directly and for the most part circumventing Jane.

So in my personal opinion the conveyancing offered by Jane towards the end achieved nothing more than extending / drawing out the process, adding unnecessary angst, stress and associated costs.

Sure, Jane will provide a squeaky-clean sale / purchase or perhaps force a cancellation for the most obscure reasons, so you might want to check that the lamp shades are the right colour, you’ve an extra month or two available to complete and deeper pockets before thinking about instructing or engaging.

Sussex Law did not represent myself but instead the sellers of a plot of land we were purchasing. I would not recommend Sussex Law to anyone, and for future property sales or purchases, I would drop out of the transaction before going through this process again with Sussex Law involved. From reading their other reviews their quality of work seems to be at either end of the scale, unfortunately we experienced them on a bad day that lasted 8 months. Jane rarely answered calls to either our solicitor or her own client, if her assistant answered you were promised a return call that never materialised. She brought up issues to the sellers at the eleventh hour rather than discussing them ahead of time. She also added in her own clauses into the contract without the seller’s request, which had to be sent back to Sussex Law multiple times to get these clauses removed. Our solicitor’s fees were also much higher than quoted as they had to pick up the slack if we wanted the work to be completed to a high quality and in a timely manner. For a relatively easy and simple transaction there were a lot of delays and annoyances that I feel could have been avoided if the sellers had been using a different company.

Solicitors act in the best interest of their clients don't they?

Absurd that a non client can give a negative review. Solicitors work in their clients own best interest. The fact that someone on the other side is miffed is no doubt a sign that Sussex Law did a great job for THEIR client. I have used them several times and found Jane and the suppoert staff absolutely brilliant.
