The sale of our property should have been straightforward as there was no chain involved, but it dragged on for months. Communication from Talbots was poor, we had to keep contacting them to find out how the sale was progressing, as they didn’t give us any updates. They didn’t even tell us when exchange of contracts was taking place, and that they were going to complete the sale on the same day, despite me having emailed Talbots to ask for an update on the sale. We found out by accident half-way through one afternoon that we no longer owned the house, with furniture still in the house, and no removal van booked! We had to rush to clear the property before the new owners arrived, which was very upsetting as we felt we didn’t have time to say ‘goodbye’ to the house properly. Then when we received the final invoice from Talbots, they had charged us more than their original quote for their abysmal service!
Talbots staff do not seem to think that homeowners have a right to be kept informed of any decisions made between solicitors regarding their property. They also seem to forget that the properties they are dealing with are not just a pile of bricks and a load of paperwork – they are people’s homes.
BUYING OR SELLING A HOME IS ALWAYS A STRESSFUL EXPERIENCE. DON’T MAKE IT ANY MORE STRESSFUL THAN IT NEEDS TO BE – DON’T USE TALBOTS!
