Will and probate

Started off well when appointed in May 2018 with the initial appointed lawyer Alex doing a brilliant job resolving the probate, inheritance tax, contacting banks and other external bill agencies related to my late aunts estate. A fee of around £2 000 was agreed initially which got to just over £3 000 because of the extra work he did which was well detailed and communicated. However as of May 2020 until now, we had the head of tghe private client department take over the case and have been charged up to almost £50 000, more than 10 times the agreed fees. There have been major discrepancies which when highlighted, fell on deaf ears. I contacted their complaints department to query my grievances and have not had a response from them. Instead, the same person i made a complaint about expressed her displeasure, blacklisted me and disregarded any further concerns i addressed. I was excluded from receiving my final inheritance distribution afterwards even after numerous reminders of their mistakes. It has been heartbreaking considering how well things started only for a senior practitioner to mess it all up. I wouldn't recommend anyone considering my personal experience from 2020 to date. Very poor.

Avoid at all costs! Utterly appalling, this is the worst law firm we have ever dealt with and was a traumatic experience. The service was extremely poor, and the solicitor made repeated errors during the process which we needed to do her job to check all legal documents to rectify her mistakes, bad communication, withheld the key document/information without passing to us until we found out, etc. Refused to follow their own complaint procedure, and deliberately sent the correspondence to the old wrong address which resulted in us not knowing a CCJ being issued under our names, while the complaint was still pending! Unprofessional solicitors full of lies, all they want is your money without any duty care. We have escalated them to the Legal Ombudsman who ruled that there has been some unreasonable service from Vanderpump that requires remedy. Do not recommend to anyone!

There is no service as such, its just a set up to rip off people. They will not give you any advice or do work. They just want your money and will harm your case while ripping you off. This is what they did with my case. Their Richard Stephens is all advertisement but no substance. No principles, no expertise of any sort. This is based on my personal experience with this firm. The positive reviews about him are what he writes himself. If you pay attention you will recognise his style and see it for yourself. Keep away from them.

I have always found Vanderpump & Sykes to be an extremely professional and helpful Solicitors. I have used their services for a number of issues and I have always had the best service knowing that I can trust their judgement and advice. Which is a rare attribute to find these days.

This simply doesn't sound credible. Your review is too generic and flat. I don't believe you. Vanderpump and Sykes receive a high number of complaints. They inflate bills quite a bit so they can later give you a 20% discount on the bill. They are very good at deflecting complaints. If they put the same amount of energy into their work they would have become useful and successful. It's really unfourtunate how they behave.

Parisa did an excellent job of conveyancing my first property purchase. In all the times I phoned Parisa, she picks up her phone and she was always available to help.
The whole process went through very smoothly and with no stress. I'm really grateful for all her help and would recommend her unreservedly to anyone considering appointing a solicitor.

As a first time buyer I was very overwhelmed by the whole process at first. The Vanderpump & Sykes team really made me feel like I could ask any question - at any time - and get an answer that was clear, concise and most importantly understandable. I had an extremely positive experience with the team and I would certainly recommend them to anyone.
Thank you for providing such a friendly and helpful service!!!

A very disappointing end to what should have been a relatively straightforward sale. It comes to something when a senior partner resorts in a final e-mail to sarcasm. Up until the error referred to below the solicitor had done good work, indeed we commented on this, having had some pretty poor experiences of conveyancing solicitors previously.
A serious error by the solicitor in sending out an incorrect fixtures and fittings form had led to (an empty but none the less upsetting) threat of being taken to court for breach of contract and completion being delayed by three days. This naturally caused a lot of stress and aggravation.
The Vanderpump and Sykes solicitor would not amend her bill to reflect the stress and anxiety caused by her mistake but offered to send flowers and an apology. This was kindly accepted but never materialised.
Further communications with the company got nowhere and my fiancée received no refund from her bill.
One does not have the option to amend a bill as the company holds all the monies!!
Vanderpump and Sykes did not provide the level of service and client care expected from a well known company and did not fairly earn the fee paid for their services.

At Vanderpumps we take any expression of dissatisfaction seriously and one of our Senior Partners did respond fully to our clients concerns. The buyers solicitors should not have delayed the completion and we issued a Notice to Complete. In fact our solicitor did express that the buyers solicitors should send all the monies and the issue concerning the fridge freezer could be dealt with after completion.
We accepted responsibility for the arrears and agreed with the buyers solicitors that the sum of £400.00 would be offered as a concession towards the buyer finding a replacement fridge. The delay in the completion by the buyers was unlawful and our solicitor served the buyers solicitors with a notice to complete on 7th March 2017. This being the contract remedy available. Contact between our solicitor and the buyers solicitors led to the conclusion of the matter. It was agreed that the buyers would send £400 less to complete.
With regard to the flowers, there has been a delay as we wanted to close the file first. Anthony is quite right, we did indeed promise to send flowers and I can assure you that this will be done very soon!
I do hope that I have clarified matters, but please feel free to contact me directly if this is not the case.

Thank you for the response Andrew. The flowers and chocolates have now arrived and they are very nice. An e-mail has gone back thanking the solicitor in question.
Apart from the major mistake over the Fixtures and Fittings form, which caused all the subsequent issues, we have no complaint with the way the solicitor handled the sale before during and after completion. However, it does seem wrong that one is expected to pay a full fee for less than perfect service which results in a huge amount of stress, worry and upset.
My complaint would never have arisen if the company had responded clearly to the request for compensation straight away. The fact that the issue was repeatedly ignored then fudged and eventually promised, but not actioned, was extremely unprofessional. A straightforward reply, explaining that a refund was not possible but indicating that a goodwill gesture would be made, was all that was needed. My fiancée has been a client of Vanderpumps and Sykes for over eight years and would have liked to have been treated with more respect (the sarcasm of a senior partner was not appreciated) and to have felt that her custom was valued.
I hope that my feedback will help the company to reflect on their standards of client care and make the necessary changes.

Have just seen the review given by "Jane" in respect of the service she says she received from Vanderpump & Sykes and, in particular, Mark Haselton. I had been intending to leave a review of my own regarding Mark's help to me during my divorce proceedings in 2015/16 and seeing Jane's comments has finally spurred me into action.
I can only speak as I find and I totally disagree with what Jane has to say about Mark. I actually switched from another firm of solicitors (and, believe me, they were really awful, so much so, that I received compensation from them) to Vanderpump's and was delighted with every aspect of Mark's work. He briefed me fully, upfront, re hourly rates, likely eventual costs and the amount of time the proceedings would take and was true to his word throughout my dealings with him.
He always acted in my best interests, keeping me informed at every stage of the process, advised me of any possible complications and contacted me in a very timely manner (and well within the parameters agreed at the outset of our dealings). In addition, he was considerably less expensive than the solicitor I was using previously.
Based on the levels of service I received from Mark, I would have no hesitation in recommending Vanderpump's to potential clients.
