Failed to notify me of an outstanding amount for over two years of settling, then sent me aggressive and threatening mails to sue me if I did not pay immediately. Terrible and very unprofessional. I would not recommend.

Outcome: Control of non-qualified staff (section 43 order)
This outcome was reached by SRA decision.
Decision details

IN THE MATTER OF Nicholas James Nolan, a person who is or was involved in legal practice but is not a solicitor

The Facts:

Nicholas James Nolan was employed as a criminal assistant at Wannops LLP at South Pallant House South Pallant Chichester West Sussex PO19 1TH between 6 May 2002 and 1 June 2015.

On 2 December 2016 he was convicted at Lewes Crown Court of ?without authority/cause transmission of an image/sound from inside prison for simultaneous reception outside?. He was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment.

FINDING

I find that Mr Nolan is or was involved in a legal practice (as defined by section 43 (1A) of the Solicitors Act 1974) but is not a solicitor and has been convicted of a criminal offence which is such that in the opinion of the Society it would be undesirable for him to be involved in a legal practice in any of the ways described in the order below.

ORDER

To make a section 43 order that with effect from the date of the letter or email notifying Mr Nolan of this decision:

no solicitor shall employ or remunerate him in connection with his/her practice as a solicitor;
no employee of a solicitor shall employ or remunerate him in connection with the solicitor?s practice;
no recognised body shall employ or remunerate him;
no manager or employee of a recognised body shall employ or remunerate him in connection with the business of that body;
no recognised body or manager or employee of such a body shall permit him to be a manager of the body; and
no recognised body or manager or employee of such a body shall permit him to have an interest in the body

except in accordance with a Society permission.
