Really awful service from Dunn and Baker. I highly, highly recommend using another firm. The only good thing I have to say about them is that they do respond to enquiries and emails within a fairly reasonable time. Otherwise everything else was poor and our paralegal dealing with the case could have cost us our house through mistakes that could arguably been pure incompetence.
Our completion statement fell short of £999. We identified this ourselves. Had we not realised this we would not have had enough money to complete on completion day- ultimately putting our whole transaction at risk. No apologies from the paralegal for her mistake. More concerningly her work was supposedly checked by a supervisor so this simple error was missed by not one by two people in the profession. Whilst she rang us about the mistake she then told us we owed £17 for a mortgage provider electronic transfer fee. A week after completion our mortgage provider took this £17 off of us again- so we had to phone the firm who reported HSBC never requested the £17 off of D&B so we are clueless as to why the paralegal took this money off of this. Theresa then said “as a gesture of goodwill” she will refund it. As if it is not our money that they’re refunding anyway. The mistakes continue. We are then informed AFTER completion that we need to pay another £55 for another fee that the paralegal missed off. It was mistake after mistake and costing us more and more money each time. We requested compensation in the form of reduction of (so called) progressional fees for this to which they offered half of what we requested and still insisted we paid the £55 that they missed off. We said we would not be paying the £55 and so are still waiting for our £240 back. In my opinion it is not enough to compensate the ignorance, the incompetence and the stress it has caused. You pay thousands to trust your solicitors. I’m afraid we’ve lost all trust with D&B and will be sure to warn others of the poor service.
