Have pursued Handley Brown via Legal Ombudsman who has now agreed that I should get compensation. Their team are now trying to chase up HB's indeminity insurers - if there are any! Still not holding my breath for a successful outcome.

Used to work there, I'm owed thousands in wages. Laurence Brown has no fled to Spain to escape his troubles. He literally owes millions.
      Given up chasing

Ombudsman located HB's indemnity insurers and advised me on how to claim from them, quoting Ombudsman's recommendation. Of course any success in that direction depends on Handley Brown having paid their insurance premiums!

Astonishingly I received a phone call this morning informing me that, thanks to the efforts of the Legal Ombudsman, I am to receive a cheque from HB's insurers which should cover the cost of having my legal work done properly by another (this time reputable) firm.

We also used this firm of solicitors earlier in 2014 to make a will and pay for its long term storage. At the time they were very positive and offered the right solution. we have duly deposited our wills and deeds to our home for safe keeping with them and paid them a lot of money for the service.
On 8the December 2014 we received a letter "It is with regret we have to inform you that Handley Brown LLP ceased trading. Been onto company house and they still have the Ribbleton address not Cable court that is on our correspondence. Also all the phone numbers are out of order. Is there is anyone who may have some idea what is happing regarding this firm and what if anything can be done. Need help thanks

We have contacted the SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority) but they gave little advice only get another solicitor; as if we trust solicitors now. They also gave phone numbers all unobtainable. We have put letters through the door of the deserted office, sent letters through the post to redirect and sent another letter via SRA for them to send to his home address. We are now in the process of lodging a complaint with the Legal Ombudsman. Suggest you do the same to add weight to Ombudsman's case.

      Hello
I have had the same experience but our Wills were not finalised. Although they said they were "negotiating with a firm of solicitors ...... etc. I have heard no more.
SRA have not been of any help, only forwarding letters on my behalf.
HB advised me to write to the Legal Ombudsman - why? - all I want is our documents returned
I do, however. have the home address of the former owner!!!

I'm very concerned that our Land Registry and Trust paperwork may have not been lodged and will make contact with Land Registry to see where we are at. I have never been informed by Handley Brown that they have ceased trading or otherwise. However, I did receive documents from Handley Brown in July 2014 informing me of their new address and contact details:
      10 Cable Court
      Pittman Way
      Preston. PR2 9YW
      Tel. 01772 447900
      Fax. 01772 701060
      Email. Reception@handleybrown.com
Web. Handleybrown.com (although this just brings up a webpage which looks like it is written in Chinese!)

      Good luck!

I am in a similar situation with HANDLEY BROWN apparently failing to implement changes with the Land Registry we had requested and paid for. Matter is currently in the hands of the Legal Ombudsman ( who are none too optimistic of getting a resolution.) In the meantime, I have been advised to have the work done again by another solicitor.

      Hello
You should contact Solicitors Regulation Authority who are aware of the position with Handley Brown.

Also most of the files were sent from HB to Vincents although I understand they have contacted those clients

Preliminary decision on my complaint against HB has been made at Ombudsman's office and been passed up the food chain. If compensation claim approved I might be able to claim from the firm's indemnity insurers, though finding out who they are and, indeed, whether HB ever had such insurance could be tricky. Hopefully SRA might be able to help.

As with several other people, my HB will seems to have disappeared into thin air. No word of successor firm or even reply from the individual who drew up the will. Having contacted SRA and given all info to them, am now in correspondence with Legal Ombudsman and also Land Registry as I am seeking assurance that HB made the property changes I requested.

      Hi,
I have had a similar experience with our wills lodged with this firm of solicitors but out of the blue last weekend I received a nice letter from Vincents Solicitors in Lytham St Annes confirming that they are holding our wills for safekeeping under the same terms as agreed with Handley Brown.
      Great News!!!!

I contacted Vincents in Lytham St Annes regarding my Handley Brown will. They had no trace of it and sent out letters to the owners of all the wills that Handley Brown had passed on to them. Will pass on this latest non-development to the SRA and The Legal Ombudsman.

I`ve also contacted Vincent`s today. They told me they have now written to all clients that they have received documents for. They checked there databases and there was no record of mine.

As I said in an earlier response - I do have the address of the former owner

I have learned from the Land Registry that the work Handley Brown said they had done with regard to my property details appears not to have been done. All information on this matter has now been passed on to the Legal Ombudsman. It has been suggested I get another solicitor to do the work properly (and for half the cost!) and see if there are avenues for compensation. Suggest all others with Handley Brown issues do the same.

I dont know if this will help but they have Phoenix as Handley Law in Liverpool but only doing Personal Injury work. Owned by Dr Handley who owned HB. May be a useless bit of info but may help.
