If I could give no stars to this company, I would.

Our initial dealings were with Andrew H who was an absolute pleasure to work with - efficient and helpful. Clearly not a good fit for HM as he is no longer with the company. His replacement and superiors refused to honour the agreement we had in place, which has stalled this straightforward lease extension for well over 12 months right now, with no end in sight. We've since had our case passed to a junior trainee who doesn't reply to emails and promises updates with no follow through.

Do not recommend.

I was invited to update my will as it had last been made some ten years ago. Due to Covid the Birkenhead office which, I would normally have dealt with, was closed and I felt a bit dubious about doing it via the phone. However, a phone interview was arranged with Ceri Burns from the Chester office and she explained everything clearly answering any questions that I had and sending me material to read and suggesting that I make Power of Attorney arrangements. This last advice I have deferred for the moment for personal reasons but I went ahead with the updated will. Certainly things seem to have got more complicated since making me previous one and I was grateful for her advice. The charge was £250 solicitor's fees plus £50 VAT. Particularly useful was the list of information to leave for my executors, which should be kept up to date. An excellent professional service.

I used Hillyer McKeown for making a Will, their service was excellent, extremely professional and I used them during St John's Hospice 'Make a Will Month' so I donated £99 - all of which went to the Hospice. Thank you Sophie in the Chester Office for all your help and guidance, I would definitely recommend this Company and have no hesitation in rating them the 5 stars !!!

Very poor service that flogs you wills. Hillyer mckewon Usually sends salesmen(dressed up as legal advisors) who are more interested in commissions and targets than a personal service. This is a true example of the legal profession bring commercialised to something unrecognisable.

I can't recommend Andrew Hazeldine enough. He was absolutely brilliant at handling the sale of my house. He replied so quickly to any queries I had and he worked to have the sale complete as soon as possible even with the current disruption caused by Covid-19. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

The service from Andrew was second to none. He communicated very well, kept me informed on the progress of the purchase, responded to my emails promptly and explained everything I had questions about. The company also price matched the fees, which was an added bonus. Overall, an outstanding service, really cannot fault them. I would highly recommend them to anyone who's looking for a conveyancing firm. Thank you so much for making my first house buying experience as stress free as possible.

I was fortunate to have Andrew Hazeldine and his team assist me with my first property purchase. Calls were answered immediately and emails responded to in a timely fashion. It was of great benefit to have such a knowledgeable team on hand willing to answer any questions and offer advice. Due to the first class experience I had with them, I would say that their pricing is extremely competitive. I'll be looking to instruct them on my future property purchases and will certainly be recommending them to friends & family. Thanks guys, another satisfied client here.

Andrew and his team are the absolute best. They were with us every step of the way when buying our property, were never too busy to answer any one of our many questions, and were always professional and courteous. They helped alleviate a considerable amount of stress with some of the important decisions we had to make when buying our property and we are deeply grateful for their abundant assistance, advice, and expertise. I'd strongly recommend getting in touch and engaging their services if you're looking for a reliable, honest and thorough solicitor.

Excellent service from start to finish. Staff went out of their way from different branch to help get documents copied and transferred across. Was kept in the loop the entire time and regularly updated via email. Any queries on my part and questions on theirs were dealt with in a timely and satisfactory manner.
Andrew and his team deserve a pat on the back for getting both sale and purchase over the line without a hitch.
Fees extremely reasonable and would highly recommend them to anyone!

Danielle, Aneta and Aaron in Birkenhead/Liverpool HM offices have been utterly fantastic throughout the sale and purchase of our property. Always responded quickly to queries and did exactly what they said they would do.
At times, it felt like we had our own personal legal team. A dream team.

I've used a number of departments (Commercial, Conveyancing, Corporate) within HM over the last year or so and would highly recommend them. Excellent levels of service and happy with the various fixed fee notes that they provided. They got the job done on time and on budget.

Would not recommend, and my thoughts are aligned with the negative reviews also on this page.

Key issues are:
- Lack of accuracy in the work. (In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the only positive reviews on this page were made by the company themselves. The key giveaway is the constant spelling mistakes)
- Hidden charges and additional costs are levied throughout the process. Quotes are not accurate.

Extremely poor service I'm afraid. Very poor communication, they don't return calls or emails. The sale of our house nearly fell through due to the delays. They claimed the delays were our fault as we did not supply information, how were we supposed to supply information when it was never requested, were not psychic!!!!.

There were that many people at Hylier McKewon involved it was hard to know who was dealing with the sale/purchase, all very confusing.

In the end we had to pack up over 30 years of our lives in 16hrs, very stressful.

The service is discriminatory and unprofessional. They have no values or morals. The fees are significantly high and not proportionate. I would never recommend this firm, not even to my worst enemy.

Very similar experience to the review left on 29/03/17. Even though the response to the review states that they have made changes to improve their service. Seems not! Very poor communication, had to email/call them daily for updates on my case. Made no communication with me. Extremely slow, could have got through my case weeks sooner had they mad preparation for items they knew they would need. Very difficult to actually speak with a solicitor, instead you are fobbed off to one of many assistants who clearly have no idea. Perhaps they are on work experience? I've should have listened to other people who said to steer away from this company. Not professional in any way. Overall an extremely poor experience and I do not recommend their services.

The conveyancing team helped me to sell a house and I found everyone in the team to be supportive and gave good advice. They came back with questions throughout the transaction and explained everything really clearly so I know what to expect and how long things should take.

In fact selling the house took way longer than I expected but I felt I was in good hands and that they really cared about getting the house sold as soon as was possible under the circumstances.

This was the first time and I then switched from my usual solicitor of many years to Hillyer McKeown and they also gave me advice about probate.

I found that everyone I spoke to was friendly which was nice and different from other solicitors I have been involved with in the past. They were probably not the cheapest but I found they were at the end of a phone or quick to get back on email. I would definitely say get in touch with them and I have recommended them to friends and family as well.

Really poor service given as solicitors in buying a property.

Poor communication and got several things wrong that if I'd not spotted would have been over charged for.

Most of the time you have to chase them for responses to your questions and even then they only seem to ignore some of the questions asked.

Made many mistakes along the way, which made me loose confidence in them and have to check all the documents very thoroughly.

After completion there was no communication and I assumed all was fine. A month later I realised I'd been overcharged for several items.

Contacted them to ask about it and at first they were defensive saying they had done it all correctly. Then after much explaining they rembused me £200, then after more explaining as to why they had done things incorrectly, another £12 and then another £120.

I asked what they were going to do given that they had made so many errors and I had to spend so much time checking and getting the money back off them.

They came back and said it does say on a disclaimer on the completion notes "errors and omissions excepted". And said therefore since they have now returned the money owed to me there is no compensation they can provide.

Stay well clear of this firm. Not worth the hassle. Pay a bit more for better quality. It may turn out to save you money given all the mistakes I've had with these people.


I've only used Hillyer McKeown for conveyancing services, so can't comment on other service areas they provide.
