Advise was given by Gurpal Singh on some bad debt we had as a company and likely outcome if we were to take court action. The invoices were so inflated it was beyond belief.

(July-September 2017) We were initially under Emma-Jayne Sheehan's care, and things were going smoothly (in the initial phase there is not much to do on the solicitor's side though, as they are waiting for the mortgage offer). Then we were informed that she was leaving the firm with no notice whatsoever and that our case was to be given to someone joining Miller Sands (MS) to replace her. This was after we had communicated to MS that we wanted to move quickly (the vendors were ready to move out). The case was taken over by Michael Hewitt. My list of complaints included:
      - getting local search results took them 10 days (and they only started when I prompted them), even though the council said the waiting time was 4 days
      - had been told several times that our preferred contract exchange date "should be possible", only to be told it was unrealistic a week before the date
      - two or three times I was told MS had all the documents they needed, but I called them or e-mailed almost every day to check the progress, and they found they still needed something (for example the "LPE1" form, which they did not know who should provide and it fell on me to find it out and chase people)
      - despite having confirmed receipt by e-mail, they lost one of the forms we signed, so we had to provide them again

Judging from other comments, MS are generally good solicitors, but it seems we were unlucky to be their clients during some internal turmoil. It was not handled gracefully, as there was no time overlap whatsoever between the person taking over and the solicitor who was leaving to ease the transition. Instead of waiting for MS to sort things out for me and doing my part, I ended up chasing people (bank, city council, housing association, vendors), which made buying a house a very unpleasant and time-consuming experience.

Sub-par legal services received from the conveyancing property team. The solicitor displayed an incredible lack of interest in our property, did not inform us of the relevant documents we needed, and did not take the time to advise us. If you have property needs in the Cambridge area, do yourself a favour and go to another firm. Use Miller Sands at your peril.
