Terrible experience with Newtons. I never felt they advocated my position or valued me as a client. They were frequently too busy to address my matter or reply to my emails. I was repeatedly billed for chasing Newtons to act and progress the matter. There was no provision for the matter to be handled whilst my solicitor was on leave. Action was rarely taken by the solicitor, rather someone on her behalf billing me at her rate. I raised several complaints that were never addressed by the company.
Overall my situation was made far worse by Newtons and cost alot more than estimated. Initially I was content to instruct a solicitor on higher rate hoping it would be money well spent. However I did not see any value in the vast sums billed by Newtons and I deeply regret instructing them to act on my behalf.

Dear Tom
I am sorry that you aren’t happy with your decision to instruct us – that’s important to me.
I’ve looked into your case as has my co-director Claire Armer.
You did complain earlier this year and a response was sent to that complaint on 10th February. We suggested that you find another solicitor but also stated that we would be happy to continue representing you. You chose to continue with us.
We obviously advocated your position. Part of your complaint was that we did this too much. We represented you to the conclusion of your case.
There was some delay during January due to unusual court commitments but no deadlines were missed and your case wasn’t prejudiced.
You will not have been billed for chasing us to progress the matter. I’m informed that you were provided with a billing guide and invited to raise items that you were unhappy with but that you didn’t do so.
Your statement that there was no provision for the matter to be handled whilst your solicitor was on leave simply isn’t true. The issue that needed dealing with in March was dealt with promptly by another senior solicitor whilst your solicitor was on holiday. It is also untrue that action was rarely taken by the solicitor rather than someone on her behalf billing at her rate. You might be confused here by the practice of secretaries sending out emails on behalf of solicitors however the letters have been drafted and checked by the solicitors.
We cannot anticipate how the other side will conduct a case and it was necessary to challenge certain things in correspondence in order to avoid threatened court applications. I appreciate that the fees were a lot for you but overall given the issues involved they were modest. You accept yourself that you were in a challenging situation.
With hindsight I think it would have been better for both of us if we had parted company earlier this year rather than continuing to support you.
I wish you well for the future.
Yours sincerely
Christopher Newton

I contacted Newtons to help my parents with their Wills and to provide Power of Attorney advice to myself and Husband. They were great communicators and dealt with my parents with great care and kindness, we will most certainly be using them again.

I found Newtons after having an unfortunate experience at work which resulted in me being unfairly dismissed. Newtons were supportive and resolute in their approach even when my previous employers tried to avoid taking responsibility. I could not have fought alone and I was incredibly impressed with all of the team at Knaresborough who advised me, I would thoroughly recommend and will use again.

Excellent service and advice form all of the team that supported me, they have a clear cost structure that gave me great confidence and ultimately provided excellent value compared to other firms I contacted. It was a difficult situation to go through and their compassion and understanding made it all a lot easier. I have now moved to Europe but will continue to use Newtons

Absolutely awful, brilliant if you want someone to tell you how strong the other parties position is and then charge you a lot of money for that information. Expensive, ineffective. Confirmed everything I had previously experienced from solicitors. Avoid avoid avoid...........
