When you already have a legal aid certificate, be careful with opportunistic solicitors who will try to grab it as an easy way to make money. Others have tried to do it to me. They told me the only way to discuss my case with me was to first get the legal aid certificate and then talk about it. This is a lie. When you are paying, most solicitors will give you half an hour to talk about your case or 1 hour+ if you pay them a fee. I offered to pay for their time. Without talking to them first, I had no way of knowing how they could help and what they had to offer.
They saw I was in a vulnerable situation, worried about a forthcoming hearing, and they tried to get me to sign the paper authorising the certificate transfer to them.
When I told them I would not sign until we discussed what they could do, they told me they had no time for the case! So I would have transferred the certificate to them and then found out they were not going to do the work, whilst getting paid by the agency!
Avoid this firm at all costs!
