This site wouldn't let me post the full story - kept saying there were swear words or slander which there wasn't!
So, hoping it will get accepted, can I just say we had a horrific experience with St Helens Law and have just received a paltry compensation after the Legal Ombudsman found their service to be less than we should expect. It's taken nearly 2yrs. I can't recommend this company. They were rude and caused us a lot of stress

I chose to use the services of St Helens Law to deal with the estate of my mother. I had met one of the senior probable solicitors at a seminar around estate planning, probate, wills, and Power of Attorney held at the Carers Trust in St Helens and was impressed with her presentation there.
It was unfortunate that I needed to use these services within a few weeks of that but Kirsty was very easy to deal with and easy to speak to and everything was kept simple.
Probate was applied for within a month of instruction and we got this 2 weeks later. I realise ever case is different but for us the speed at how this was done was over and above our expectations.
Over the next few months while waiting for the house to sell and the solicitor contacting banks, building societies and energy companies etc we were as executors kept fully informed and updated. I spoke sometimes on the phone and was dealt with professionally and courteously. Sometimes emailing for advice or requesting payment from the estate funds to pay for relevant things. Responses were quick and informative and I never had to wait more than a 2/3 days for the money to arrive in my account.
Start to finish it took just over 7 months though it was waiting for the house sale that delayed things and once that was done and funds received it moved quickly to completion.
I was, then, thoroughly satisfied with the services provided by the probate team and would recommend SHL to anyone wanting similar. In addition the costs for this were very reasonable and not expensive for the work carried out.
Thank you to all in the probate team for the service provided.

I personally would highly recommend St Helens Law due to the fact Kirsty ( probate ) handled all our financial affairs….Kirsty was hands on from the first phone call , updated the family daily and wrapped everything up in the required time with the least upheaval regarding a delicate time due to personnel grief ….We could not have chosen a better representative for the family within ST HELENS LAW and this entails credit to all employee’s …THANK YOU St Helens Law , for you devoted attention start to finish…and once again THANK YOU Kirsty Cartwright for your professionalism and diligence throughout .

No accurate directions. No prior information to my appointment - accessibility, car parking, train stations nearby etc. Satnav / Google maps took me to Salisbury Street. Upon arrival there were no signs indicating the whereabouts of SHL. Eventually went into St Helens Chamber and still no indication of SHL. I am now late for my appointment. Informed the solicitor was on the phone, waited 20 minutes. Was told that I would be taken to a room whilst solicitor was still on the phone, no room was available. I informed the lady / receptionist that this was not acceptable and left. A total shambles of a company.

I cannot fault this company. As Court of Protection Deputy I was referred to this company. The service has been excellent. From start to finish . Fees where very reasonable, and they where very supportive in giving advise. The funds where transferred to my account on the same day the sale went through. Well Done.

Terrible. The so-called family solicitors are a joke. Sending out paperwork full of errors, claiming to have the best interests of the family yet refusing to amend any errors, spelling mistakes etc. Doesn't reply to emails, doesn't return phone calls. Spends most of their time out of the office leaving the work to their assistants.
Avoid like the plague.

Terrible. Received a letter from them today full of errors, spelling mistakes, the wrong address stated and date details were also wrong. Seriously would avoid using them.

I work in financial advice, in equity release where things can get a little testy sometimes considering the nature of advice, and I've never experienced such a belligerent conversation with another professional. Typical over-dominating senior male adviser who cannot apply any nuance to his listening skills and ultimately ends up infantilising and upsetting the client due to his own incompetence, not theirs. I have never experienced such a ridiculous customer experience. You should be ashamed of your company for not properly auditing the way your advisers speak with customers. Perhaps a few training classes are in order? Happy to get my company to offer them up, as considering the way this man spoke, it makes my company's hiccups look like award-winning advice.

only after your money, it seems.. communication is bad they don't return calls, the only emails you will get is about costing and when they want money, I told my soon to ex wife.. if anything actually gets done that is.. about a letter I could send to try enforce her to comply with letting me see the kids I printed this letter to show my parents etc to talk about options, but didn't advise St helens law to send it yet until we have a school meeting.. somehow my wife has this letter and apparently contacted St helens law to see if its real... now I'm crying billed 180 for a letter anyone could have made.. "legit" or not its just saying I have rights to see my children if not we go court.. which I've also looked into .. which would cost me way to much to fill in I think a c100 form... I really feel like getting my money back for the divorce but after seeing other reviews I have more chance of my wife falling in love with me again... the emails are very forceful, considering all the upset and stress I'm going through
... not very caring considering their on my side :( highly disappointing and upsetting my wife knows how much this costs and she's doing more to hurt me. she must have got into the house whilst i was out. hope this can be sorted :( I was recommended to this company i should have done my homework

We used this company to buy our first house Our next door neighbour we have since found out used a cheaper quoted firm
We both bought new properties but we were in our house inside six weeks. Our new neighbour took eleven weeks to move from starting the process. I am glad now that I spent the extra to buy our house

DO NOT USE THIS SOLICITOR !!!!!
We used this solicitors for an ongoing case for over a year.
They got our names wrong in correspondence our address wrong, dates wrong.
Our bill was incorrectly over billed by a large amount, yet they literally demanded payment, and didn't take kindly to us when we questioned it,
They even sent out inaccurate letter to another Solicitors.
One of the Senior partners was rude and arrogant to both myself and husband.
When we complained the initial response was that they couldn't see cause for complaint !!! and why were we bothering them. Obviously this amount of mistakes are the norm for them, and generally the level of professionalism they find acceptable.
Our mistake was we should have changed Solicitors
I WOULD NOT USE ST HELENS LAW AGAIN EVEN IF THEY OFFERED THEIR SERVICES FOR FREE!!!!

DO NOT USE
Incompetent company with equally incompetent people, Can't believe they are still going. If i treated customers like that i'd be fired or lose my business. End of.
When you are already dealing with one of the most stressful times of your life, you don't wish to be greeted with such a heartless email like "don't think so" . This was the response we received after already waiting a ridiculous three months for anyone to get into contact when asking about dates for exchange.
SHL have an unprofessional approach towards its customers, no people skills, no emails to keep client up to date, no messages being passed on, delayed by months due to NO contact. Our situation doesn't have a chain and they were instructed to complete before Christmas 2016... not 2017! Disrespectful and arrogant. Maybe others have better experience of Marjorie and Liam? I suspect not.Not entirely sure what we pay them for.
