rude and was sworn at
never kept me up to date as and when agreed.
always used child care as an excuse for not contacting me as agreed.
complaint manager would not accept I made complaints in past
I felt the complaints I made was not always taken seriously and the lady who received my complaint was on the defensive and dismissive and not open minded as regards to what I was explaining the issues were.
told me incorrect facts about compensation I could receive.
poor service

Appalling service and incompetent solicitor dragged on for years as solicitor out of his depth, he did not know what he was doing.

The initial service was goo. Then the lawyer became ignorant, would not listen to client. The lawyer complained about legal aid not being enough money. The lawyer refused to complete the case and was very il mannered, on thrid attempt of going to court. extremely disappointed with the customer care by Mrs Harris of Steel and Shamash. Wouldn't recommend them as a reputatable service.

Absolutely appalling! This may have been a one-off incident but our Probate matter was dealt with unprofessionally and unsympathetically until Gerald Shamash stepped in to admit that the matter was not dealt with efficiently, and to advise us that we would be better off completing the matter ourselves.
We actually condensed the paperwork for them by giving them all that was necessary and requested the Grant of Probate, payment of Inheritance tax, a single property to be transferred as well as stocks/shares. Frankly, the only thing that needed to be done was forms to be filled out by them as the groundwork had been done. The first solicitor dealing with the matter did not apply the nil rate band when calculating IHT!!! Had we not double checked the form we would have lost a substantial amount of money. After having not heard from this solicitor for several weeks, we contacted the firm to be told the solicitor was no longer working there and someone else had been passed our matter. Once solicitor no.2 was on the scene we made some progress, the progress that should have been made at the very beginning. However, solicitor no.2 soon left the firm and that is when Gerald stepped in to advise us that it would save us money and them time if we did the rest ourselves. Wholly unacceptable but by that time we were approaching almost 9 months after the death and had not got very far. Yes, some money was reduced from our final invoice as goodwill, but why we had to even pay anything went beyond me! I had solely instructed solicitors to deal with the probate so as to give us time to grieve whilst the necessary formalities took place, but we effectively ended up doing it ourselves. I would strongly discourage anyone from using this firm for Probate. Their strengths may lie elsewhere...
