We are/where in the process of purchasing a property, sadly the seller of the property decided to use Widows as a solicitor. Due to their incompetence and stringing along we are now homeless

I shopped around for divorce lawyer as I live in worsley this practice charges a upfront fee my advice is to seek a good family law solicitor that’ thinks about the children before how much money they will make there is far better solicitors close by and they don’t charge upfront fees iam happy god guided me before I made the mistake of going with this firm.

I instructed this company to undertake conveyancing on a BTL property. They under paid SDLT to HMRC, but took the correct amount from me. They spotted this error 12 months later and did not inform me. I received an interest tax demand from HMRC which when confronted with they said they knew nothing about. Only after months of further investigation with ourselves and HMRC did they finally admit the error.
I would not recommend this company based on this experience.

Instructed these chaps to deal with simple conveyancing matter regarding a property close to where they practice they are good at the start for about a day or two then the service goes down hill supposed to be experienced in property matters there jokers waited over 7 weeks to exchange and complete in the end lost the deal i take reviews with a pinch of salt but guys these reviews on here speak volumes about this firm complete jokers who not only cost you your deal but never return phone calls or emails dont go near them with a barge poll if you want deal to go through.

I am Widdows Pilling`s complaints officer. I have reviewed our data base and checked with the fee earners in our property law department and can find no record of us acting for anyone with this name. I have not received any complaints that would fit the facts complained of by Mr Hewitt . I am therefore drawn to the conclusion that this is a malicious complaint filed with the intention of damaging our reputation. If I am wrong and Mr Hewitt is a genuine client who is disappointed at the service he received I ask that he contact me. All complaints are investigated fully and where possible remedied .

Mr Parker if i recall it was a diffrent guy called Nick who dealt with my complaint but like your reply to other clients complaints it was similat doo you have a book of excuses you all use .For a senior partner in this firm you seem to have more time responding to reviews than looking after your clients try putting your clients first I have no need to tell lies and your company did act for me and cost me hard earned money iam not out to damage your firm you and your staff are already doing a good job of that I simply write a review to warn future clients who you may be giving in acurate advice to costing them like me money.

Absolutely appallingly bad service. Avoid Widdows Pilling at all costs.
Widdows Pilling were guilty of gross incompetence and negligence when dealing with a house that we wished to purchase.
It was only 3 days before completion that they realised that the Title Deeds to the house did not actually exist. The first step in any conveyancing is for the seller's solicitor to ensure that the seller has the legal right to sell the property. The second step is for the buyer's solicitor (in this case Widdows Pilling) to assure themselves that the first step has been completed. Without this simple process anyone could sell any house to someone else, whether they owned it or not.
As it transpired there should be 2 sets of deeds for the house we wished to buy. One for the house and one for a separate section of garden. Widdows Pilling failed to realise this, having only got the deeds for the garden. They proceeded on that basis, having not checked with us what we thought we were buying.
We were only saved, from paying in excess of £335,000 and buying only a small section of garden, by our useless solicitor going off sick. (Widdows Pilling have since, illegally, shared with us intimate details of that solicitors illness & reasons for being absent from work!)
Another solicitor took over the case and he did spot the fairly obvious, glaring problem that he didn't have any deeds to sell to us.
They now claim that they have not been grossly incompetent or negligent as they spotted the problem before completion. 3 days before completion, rather than 3 months before!
Their next move was to sack us, rather than to apologise and to try to put their own errors right. Their attitude since has been dismissive and defensive, as if they have done no wrong at all.

I am Widdows Pilling`s complaints officer. I am aware of this complaint and have investigated it . I concluded that the allegation that we were negligent was simply not correct. The suggestion that we have acted illegally in relation to our staff is not only wrong it is offensive. If you chose to instruct us you will find that you are dealing with real people who take responsibility for their actions. If there is ever cause for complaint ( real people do make mistakes ) again an individual takes responsibility for investigating and resolving the issue.

Mr Parker did indeed "investigate" our complaint. To no-one's surprise he found that the firm that he works for did no wrong.
He then demanded that we sign a cover-all form to allow him to disclose our confidential information in order to respond to this complaint. Why he wished to do this we still don't know. Nor did he say what confidential information he would have to make public. He has been able to respond to the complaint without our signing away all of our information.
Solicitors do have, due to their privileged position, a wealth of information on clients. They surely can't just ask you to sign away all of that client confidentiality. Widdows Pilling felt able to do this though!
I stand by the fair comment that Widdows Pilling were negligent and incompetent. Not to realise that the deeds to this house didn't actually exist is fairly negligent and incompetent in my view. How else do they determine that the seller has the legal right to sell a house? Because he says that he has the right? Seriously?
They "resolved the issue" by sacking us! That's not really taking responsibility for their mistakes, is it?

I took advice from this solicitor earlier in year and his firm yes His firm did not doo anything for free what solicitor does and I know through face book that the reviews are added by people the solicitor knows take it from me his advice and services were incompetent my x got access even though he advised me to object there was only one winner that was Mr Parkers firm he talks the talk but really out of practice with family law.
11/12/17 - Response by Jeremy Parker
I have not acted for a Miss Duffy.
No family law client who I have represented would use the term access. It was replaced in October 1991 with the term contact and in April 2014 by the term child arrangements.

Read reviews on line which i took with pinch of salt can i advise prospective clients this firm charges for divorce advice at the outset Mr Parker advised me and even in waiting room his secretary was as pushy as he was to start proceedings not easy when been married 23 years decided to go with bigger more accredited practice seems by reviews a lot of people were fooled by Mr Parkers advice and the fact that he responds to negativity is a good indication of his personality complete waste of time and money would not recommend this practice.
06/12/17 - Response by Jeremy Parker
I have not acted for a Mrs Rayner . It is correct that we do charge for initial advice, there is a fixed fee of £100 including VAT which is then deducted from our bill if we are instructed. The reason we charge is that we have to open a file for everyone we see and that involves an administrative charge for which we are obliged to charge. Our charges are I believe much lower than other solicitors offering a similar service . I have no objection to honest criticism ( like everyone I do not enjoy it ) but I do object where criticism is filed on line by people I have not advised. I have never in a career spanning 35 years pressed a client to initiate divorce. As a firm we have a very robust client care policy and any client who is in anyway unhappy with our service has open access to an effective complaints policy.

Went to interview J Parker over my divorce they charged me fee upfront at 45yrs old iam a good judge of people defo wouldnt use this guy after seing another interviewing two more local divorce lawyers his advice was poor as to my circumstances and waste of my hard earned money.Says a lot about this guy with his reviews and the fact that he charges a upfront fee ? Other solicitor who i decided to use no upfront fee more realisic advice at very important time of my life and highly rated with positive reviews.

Yet again I have not advised a client with this name. The review I suspect has been placed by a certain individual whose wife I represented very successfully in divorce proceedings and seems to find it difficult to accept the outcome that was achieved for her.

We have never acted for a Sinead Morton or indeed anyone else with the name Morton in divorce proceedings.
This review is a plant , probably put on the site by the ex spouse of someone we very successfully represented in financial applications who seems aggrieved at the outcome.

We have never acted for a Mr Mike Seddon or in any case in which a Mike Seddon was a party .We can only therefore presume that whoever posted this review had either had too much to drink over Christmas or was acting maliciously.
We suspect the individual who posted this review is the ex spouse of a client who we successfully represented in divorce proceedings.
