Simon Hedley dealt with our conveyancing.
On our sale he was very efficient ad responsive,copying us into all correspondence.
As soon as our sale concluded, as there was a delay between our sale and purchase, he took his fee agreed for our purchase from sale proceeds and then everything ground to a halt.
We were then in temporary accommodation and we struggled make contact with him. We tried to remain polite and friendly but he basically ignored our emails until we started threatening other alternatives.
From then he has done his job and to his credit picked up on a number of issues re the new build we were buying, so don't want to be completely damning. But he failed to pay our stamp duty and register title straight way until we chased.
Also we have had issues with developer re breach of contract and he said he would follow up and contact other parties solicitor but now does not respond to emails.

Certain of these comments are incorrect in that:
1. The stamp duty land tax payment was lodged within the correct period.
2. The Land Registry application was lodged within the correct period.
3. Emails were not ignored.
4. The fees taken from the sale proceeds were as agreed by the clients at the outset.
5. The clients chose not to follow my advice and did not inform me of certain prior arrangements, both of which resulted in later problems with the other side and disgruntlement.

I am in a perfect position to access and respond to this review because my firm uses Simon Hedley of Thomas Magnay & Co., and because we have a regularity of international dealings with law firms in the UK, US, and Asia with which to compare.
I’m sorry to say this client’s review smacks of the sour grapes of an inexperienced buyer who does not understand land dealings and who may have made a poor purchase choice.
Madam, land dealings are, by their nature, necessarily slow for the protection of the parties and of the system of registration. And your solicitor is not to blame for the all too common problems with developers.
We have had shocking experiences with law firms. You do not want one of those.
In my experience, everything Simon does is prompt, properly considered, and legally correct. His communications are precise and informative, and his absolute professionalism gives a great deal of comfort.
I have never met Simon. Yet I feel compelled to defend him on account of the excellent service we get from him, and I find it very hard to believe he would have given you anything less.
In the complex world of paperwork, I give Simon my strongest recommendation.
